The new Papunya Tula artists’ studio at Kintore opened on March 16, 2007, and from the photographs that appear on the Papunya Tula website, it looks to be a wonderful, light-filled, spacious facility, and air-conditioned as well. The studio was officially opened by Daphne Williams, and guests were welcomed to the facility by the current chairman of Papunya Tula Artists, Bobby West Tjupurrula, and manager Paul Sweeney. Over 100 visitors were comfortably accommodated and well fed, and treated to dances by women from Kintore, Kiwirrkura and Mt Liebig. Men from Kintore also danced, to the general glee of the local residents. Sadly, we weren’t able to attend (curse the tyranny of distance!) However, I do have some additional photos to share, thanks to Rae and Warren Walker of Honey Art Gallery in Yandina, Qld.
